Crashed Spicy Sweet Potatoes are My New Fall Comfort Food

Crashed Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Now that Fall has officially begun, it’s time to put on the warm socks, colorful sweaters and curl up by the fire.  Heat up a cup of apple cider and put a stick of cinnamon in it while you are waiting for the Crashed Sweet Potatoes to finish cooking.  Can you tell that I love fall.

Here in the Sierras, we like to head out to Tahoe and get some pictures of the fall leaves, and maybe some bears.

“Pickles are so firm. Pickles are so crunchy. Do you have a pickle. For when I need a munchie?” The Pickle Song

“Buckwheat: Do you like pickles?
Porky: i think they stink!
Buckwheat: I love pickles
Porky: My mum makes me eat them
Buckwheat: I’m crazy about em!
Porky: I’ll sell you my pickle for a nickle
Buckwheat: How bout 2 cents..
Porky:Ok
Buckwheat: I’ve got two pickles. I’ve got two pickles. I’ve got two pickles today .. hey hey.. !”

I love pickles!

But they can’t just be any old pickle.  I do not like bread and butter pickles and I do not like wimpy pickles. I like crisp, crunchy, dilly pickles.  I also like sweet pickles on occasion, but dills are my favorite because they make my mouth water.

I might just be a pickle connoisseur.

Pork Chops Two Ways: Smoked Grilled or Parmesan Encrusted…but never dry.

Fried Green Tomatoes, Two Spicy Sauces and One Great Burger

So, I was at the Farmers Market the other day, where I could probably hang out everyday if it was possible, and I saw some great things: fruit, artichoke flowers, colorful purses, Z-pies (frozen little pot pies), cheeses, breads and–Green Tomatoes!

I do love Farmers Markets and I do love Fried Green Tomatoes.  I also purchased some Buffalo Mozzarella from Dedrick’s Cheese (a little cheese shop based in Placerville.)

Roasted Chile-Lime Chicken or He Limes Me, He Limes Me Not

Roasted Chile-Lime Chicken with Garlic Lime Corn

Well, we are still in Lake Tahoe and yesterday the weather started to improve. It was still petty cool, but the sun was out more than it was behind the clouds. Our morning walk around the neighborhood was brisk but beautiful.

Skirt Steak and Artichokes or Let’s go to Tahoe for the weekend

We spent last weekend at one of my favorite places in the world (not that I have traveled the world over, but even if I had, I think this would still be my favorite place because this is where I grew up)…Lake Tahoe.  It was kind of spur of the moment, but the weather had been so nice and it was supposed to remain nice, so I talked Yes!Chef! into going there for a couple of days.  We are most lucky to live about one hour from Lake Tahoe and, even luckier, we are blessed to have a cabin up there that my family has owned for a very long time.
