A little sauciness from Yes!Chef!…barbecue basics

Homemade Barbecue Sauce with grilled chicken

Barbecue!  That word conjures up summer and swimming and fresh fruit and veggies and meat cooking on the grill.

And…the age old argument about barbecue sauce.  Should it be sweet or tart?  Homemade or store bought?  Meat marinated in the sauce or used after the meat is cooked?  We are here to say, “Yes!” to all of the above.

With Much Love and Strawberries

Marinated Strawberry Salad with arugula, Fennel and Pepitas
Marinated Strawberry Salad with arugula, Fennel and Pepitas

I think love and strawberries go together.  After all, you can dip strawberries in chocolate, or drop them into champagne, or slice them up and serve with ice cream drizzled with chocolate.  All of these are romantic and put you in the mind for love.  And between Yes!Chef! and myself, we have been making quite a few strawberry recipes lately.

So, it’s back to this…perfecting pork ribs.  Yes!Chef! loved the last batch of ribs that he made, but he came across a technique that really intrigued him, so he had to try it.  I’m always a willing guinea pig when it comes to most of his food and I will photograph anything he decides to cook.

Chiles and Limes go together like Love and Marriage

Chile Lime Infused Dinner for Two

It’s been two weeks now since my daughter’s wedding to a wonderful young man.  The wedding was lovely and we were lucky the weather was not hot, nor cold.  The weekend before the wedding the temperature was 106 degrees.  Two days after the wedding the weather turned quite cold-around 65 degrees- and rainy.  This past weekend, the weather was 109 degrees.  The temperature on my daughter’s wedding day was 89 degrees.  God was definitely smiling on this wedding.

Happy Memorial Day, even though it’s a little late.  We spent the day, actually almost the whole weekend, at Tahoe, which is our habit.  This year, though, we had no family with us.  It was just Yes!Chef!, me and Obie T. Dogg.

Pork Chops Two Ways: Smoked Grilled or Parmesan Encrusted…but never dry.

Yes!Chef! loves pork. No, that’s not strong enough.  HE REALLY LOVES PORK.

I am coming around to being a pork lover (see Pulled Pork Sandwiches).  I have never much liked pork because whenever I had it growing up or even in my adult life it was always so dry.  I do not like dry meat.  And, I especially did not like pork chops because they were always drier than dry.  Over-cooked hockey pucks.  Pttooey.  That’s what I had to say about dry pork chops until…
