Just for the Halibut, let’s make Ginger Garlic Sauce

Having dinner on the “terrace” sounds so classy and upscale.  It was actually in the backyard, but it seems like a terrace, to me.

Do you have Thyme for Peaches and Cream (Fresh Peach and Thyme Gelato)?

Peach and Thyme Gelato in a Waffle cup

Peach and Thyme Gelato in a Waffle cup

It’s a good thing this recipe finishes up the last of the fresh, juicy peaches given to us by a friend of our youngest son because I was running out of clever headlines using peaches. Ha!

We had about 6-7 peaches left and Yes!Chef! said we needed (I use the term, “We”, loosely because Yes!Chef! does not make desserts) to make one more dessert with the remaining peaches. What else to make with a bunch of peaches but ice cream?  I love ice cream.  But this time I wanted to do something a little different, so I made gelato.

He came bearing peaches. And we loved him all the more.

The headline quote sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?  I made that up because I couldn’t find any good peach quotes.  And who wouldn’t love someone that brings you 12 perfect peaches?  A friend of my youngest son’s showed up the other day to play some video games and he brought us the peaches.  I think I will adopt him.

With Much Love and Strawberries

Marinated Strawberry Salad with arugula, Fennel and Pepitas

Marinated Strawberry Salad with arugula, Fennel and Pepitas

I think love and strawberries go together.  After all, you can dip strawberries in chocolate, or drop them into champagne, or slice them up and serve with ice cream drizzled with chocolate.  All of these are romantic and put you in the mind for love.  And between Yes!Chef! and myself, we have been making quite a few strawberry recipes lately.

Basil Strawberries with either Vanilla Bean Ice Cream or Salted Caramel Gelato and a roasted butter cracker/brown sugar/almond crumble

Berries are a good way to celebrate summer.  Ice Cream always says summer.  Add summertime Basil and you can make yourself a yummy summertime dessert that encompasses all three flavors plus a surprise crumble on top.   I mean, seriously, how can you resist this?

New Logo for Yes!Chef! and Food Photography Bloopers

New Yes!Chef! Logo

New Yes!Chef! Logo

I was stalking some of the food blog community sites and a discussion came up about watermarking photos.  I don’t usually mark mine, but I have found so many photos of mine used without my permission or even attribution, that I decided that I would add a small watermark to them so hopefully somebody viewing them would know where they came from.  So, after spending a good deal of time thinking about it and trying out different things, I came up with the above.

Ice Cream Sandwiches where Homemade Ice Cream meets Brownie meets Roasted Soda Crackers meets Angora Ridge

Homemade ice cream sandwich

Homemade ice cream sandwich

Last year when I was in the throes of looking for perfect homemade ice cream recipes, I found a couple of recipes for Ice Cream Sandwiches that I thought would be fun to make.  Well, time moves along, and next thing I knew it was this summer.  Then there was the wedding and now we are remodeling a mid-century modern home.  After the wedding we decided to take a few days (in my case more than a few days) relaxing in Lake Tahoe.  I was able to pull out some of my summertime recipes that I had saved on Pinterest. I ran across a very unusual ice cream sandwich recipe by The Baking Bird.  It’s called Saltine Brownie & Bourbon Ice Cream Sandwiches.  I like recipes that sound unique and use surprising ingredients.  This recipe had several things that I thought were unique to an ice cream sandwich recipe…roasted saltine crackers, brownies and bourbon ice cream that is not made in the ice cream maker.
