Orphan Recipes and other mystical creatures.

Fried Shrimp and Triple Cooked French Fries

I was rereading some of my past posts and found that I have been deceiving my dear readers.  I have, on more than one occasion, indicated that I would post recipes and/or photos of food we have made but not posted.  What?    Am I just trying to get you to read my newer posts, hungering for that recipe I said I would post but didn’t?  Nope.  Don’t you even think it.  I just plumb forgot.

The Return of Yes!Chef! and his Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes

Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and buttered Green Beans

I don’t think I mentioned that Yes!Chef! got called to the East Coast to help out some of the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Not with his cooking skill, but doing his day job as an insurance adjuster.  He was gone three weeks and we were sad to miss him on Thanksgiving…especially his cooking.

Luckily, he was still at home for his birthday, so the kids and I decided to make him dinner.  (It is so sad that it took at least 5 of us to do what he does with just one of him.)  Oldest son’s girlfriend made a lovely German Chocolate cake, which is Yes!Chef!’s favorite.

Chili Today, Hot Tamale or The Pressure’s On

Pressure Cooker Chili

A couple of months ago we were contacted by a cookware manufacturing company by the name of Magefesa.  They wanted to know if we would try out their cookware and then report on it on this blog.  We were delighted to do so.  They sent us a complete set of cookware, 2 frittata pans and a pressure cooker.  Our first post was here.  We used the frittata pans and the covered pots to make this meal.  We enjoyed using them and continue to use them almost every day. (P.S.  They have some great recipes to try here.  They also have all kinds of informative videos with tips about how to use the pressure cooker, frittata pans, cooking tips, etc.  Check it out!)

We really wanted to try out the Pressure Cooker but Yes!Chef! had never used one before and we wanted to find a recipe that would showcase the cooker.  Yes!Chef! would suggest things like beans (of which I am not a big fan), or other food items that take a long time to cook conventionally, but would work well in the PC (Pressure Cooker).  We searched around the internet, but nothing seemed right.  And worse, all the PC recipes we found seemed more suited to cold weather and it was still pretty warm out.

Yes!Chef! makes Honey Glazed Pork Chops while The!Wife! tries to enter a recipe contest

So, what is happening here?  I should be entering photography contests, not recipe contests. Yes!Chef! is the one who should be thinking about cooking contests.  The sad truth is: I should stick to photography and let Yes!Chef! do the cooking.

Steak Tacos with Pickled Red Onions or Eating at home with Friends!

***UPDATE on motto:  So we had a little dust-up with our new (and I thought original) motto:  “Love people.  Cook them tasty food.”  That motto actually belongs to Penzy spices.  I’m so sorry that we used it.  When I told Yes!Chef! about it and asked him for a new motto, the first words out of his mouth were, “because life is too short to eat crappy food.”  Well, that is true.  I cleaned it up a little and rewrote it on the chalkboard until I can think of something else that may be a little less…ummm…blunt.  If you can think of anything, leave me a comment.  Again, I apologize to Penzy Spices.

It was Yes!Chef!’s and my anniversary on Tuesday.  Y!C! invited me out to dinner to celebrate.   We don’t go out to dinner much (usually on our anniversary and my birthday), so this was a real treat.  We headed to Placerville to a little restaurant called The Luna Cafe. It’s a small cafe tucked away in downtown Placerville.  We walked in and were warmly greeted by the owner.  There were several other couples there but because it was a Tuesday night, the place was not full.  We had a great time and met several other couples in the restaurant who were also celebrating their anniversaries.  The hospitality of the owner was wonderful and the food was more than plentiful.

Pan Handlers or Latin Spiced Pork Loin cooked with Great Magefesa Cookware

A couple of months ago we were contacted by a cookware manufacturing company called Magefesa, located in Florida.  They had somehow read our blog and wanted us to test some of their cookware and then review it on the blog.  We were very happy to oblige and they sent us a complete set of their Ecotherm Plus cookware, a lovely pressure cooker and a set of frittata pans.  Several weeks later we arrived home to see this on our doorstep.
