2017 Russian River Vacation-762-2400.jpgWe were very excited about Day Three.  We had reservations for lunch at Lynmar Estate Winery (a winery we had never visited before) and a later appointment at Alexander Valley Vineyards in Alexander Valley.

“What’s Up Doc?” Shredded Carrot Salad with Lime-Jalapeno-Cilantro Dressing

“Don’t take life too seriously. You’ll never get out alive.” – Bugs Bunny

20130717-_LS_9419 webCarrots have a lot going for them.  They are a pretty color, they are a little sweet, you can eat them raw or cook them and they taste good.  In a pinch, you can feed them to horses (or rabbits).  Most especially, though:  they are very economical and good for you.

Chiles and Limes go together like Love and Marriage

Chile Lime Infused Dinner for Two
Chile Lime Infused Dinner for Two

It’s been two weeks now since my daughter’s wedding to a wonderful young man.  The wedding was lovely and we were lucky the weather was not hot, nor cold.  The weekend before the wedding the temperature was 106 degrees.  Two days after the wedding the weather turned quite cold-around 65 degrees- and rainy.  This past weekend, the weather was 109 degrees.  The temperature on my daughter’s wedding day was 89 degrees.  God was definitely smiling on this wedding.

Steaks and Mistakes or This is the best Flank Steak and Chimichurri meal that I have ever made

Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce

I love steak. I am not a meat and potatoes girl.  I am a steak with yummy sauces girl.  Although I will eat potatoes when Yes!Chef! makes them (and he loves potatoes), I can do without them for the most part.  But pair up a great steak (and that includes ground up types of steak like hamburger) with a great sauce (not gravy) and some interesting veggies and I am a happy woman.

Happy Memorial Day, even though it’s a little late.  We spent the day, actually almost the whole weekend, at Tahoe, which is our habit.  This year, though, we had no family with us.  It was just Yes!Chef!, me and Obie T. Dogg.

A wedding in the family: Wedding Shower Part II – Blue Cheese Wrapped Grapes with Spicy Pistachios

Wedding shower food-5866 webAs promised, here is more of the food that Yes!Chef! prepared for his daughter’s wedding shower:  Blue Cheese and Pistachio Wrapped Grapes.  If you have never made these before, this is the time of year to try these.  They are cool and refreshing, sweet, crunchy and spicy.

I am of the opinion that bright colors make everything look better, but these blue cheese wrapped grapes rolled in a spicy pistachio mixture goes particularly well with the bright colors that we used at my daughter’s wedding shower.  Her maid of honor brought roses, gerbera daisies and white flowers to decorate our home for the shower.  The bright green pistachios seemed perfect with this color scheme.
